SUMMARY:Measuring Soft Skills to Show your Return on Learning
DESCRIPTION:Learning is a strategic business tool\, and measuring the Return on Learning (ROL) demonstrates the impact L&D has on the organization. While tracking technical skills by testing and demonstration is tangible\, it’s the high-level soft\, or life\, skills such as critical thinking\, empathy\, communication\, and an ability to deal with ambiguity that are harder to evaluate and determine the fiscal impact. Have you ever found yourself in a situation where a learning solution was implemented and resulted in a positive outcome but you were told you were unable to measure the impact? You can and should be able to since the solution affects performance and does have a measurable impact. This session will highlight metrics and techniques you can use to evaluate and put a cost on the impact learning solutions have regarding the performance environment within an organization. \nMore than traditional ROI\, where the expenditure cost in terms of software\, trainers\, and tools to create learning is measured against the return (profit and revenue)\, ROL measures the cost of the problem and its impact on the organization against the cost of creating and delivering the learning solution. From attrition to leadership communication\, you can measure solutions that provide a clear and effective impact on business processes and people. This session will discuss two to three case studies that address learning solutions used to generate discussions beyond ROI and conclude with a free measurement tool provided to you to populate fiscal results. \nAttendees will Learn \n\nHow to describe 3 or more of the life skills detailed in the presentation.\n3 or more of the metrics used to measure life skills.\nHow to populate a possible ROL value based on case study data using the calculator provided.\nHow to describe the value ROL brings to a Learning & Development team.\n\nPresenter \nWilliam J. Ryan\, Ph.D.\, is the Principal Consultant with Ryan Consulting\, LLC using learning as a strategic business tool to develop and impact people to improve retention\, engagement\, and performance. Bill has a demonstrated record of corporate and industrial management experience leading performance support and instructional design teams globally including government (Dept. of Energy)\, high technology (IBM & Westinghouse)\, and health-related industries including home health care and insurance (Humana). Recent clients include Delta Faucet with a comprehensive talent staffing and development plan\, Blue Circle Leadership developing a blended online program in leadership development\, developing an implementation strategy for a Hiring for Competency model used by the National Retail Services\, a state initiative focused on workforce development helping businesses retain and develop employees. He is actively working with a clinical start-up focused on improved neonatal techniques for clinicians across the country and on a blended leadership and coaching program for a multi-state manufacturing concern. Bill holds an MS from Ithaca College focused on Instructional Design and a Ph.D. in Computing Technology in Education from Nova Southeastern University.

SUMMARY:Quality Management 2nd Training Scholarship by Quality Management Institute
DESCRIPTION:SPEAKERS\nDr Larry Kennedy \n\n\n\n\nAGENDA\n19.00 Start of presentation (London time) \n20.30. Estimated Finish \n\n\n\n\nSYNOPSIS\nThe webinar will announce the generous 2nd full scholarship offered from the Quality Management Institute for the QSG members (must also be BCS members). It will provide a course overview and schedule for registration information. \nThe Scholarship Application Submission Deadline is7th March 2024\, and the successful candidates to be sent Course Enrolment and Login Details for Candidates on 5th April 2024\, with the first online group session on Thursday 11 April\, at 7pm\, London time\, then every two weeks until 21 November \nThis webinar is for software and systems engineers\, project managers\, quality engineers/managers and anyone else wishing to improve quality in their products\, processes\, & organisation. Fostering a quality mind-set can be achieved by the establishment of quality management as a cornerstone of professional development that adds value to the software engineering profession\, and IT in general\, through the following initiatives: \n• Developing and elaborating software engineering as a leadership discipline with quality management as a foundational competency\, \n• Enabling software engineers to develop and expand the skills to manage process quality and increase profitability\, \n• Considering the organisation as a system\, fully integrating the process\, the person and the job description\, \n• Raising the level of professionalism\, corporate and technical influence\, job satisfaction and the career path trajectory. \nThis webinar aims to address quality management as a leadership and management discipline\, as applied within software engineering specifically\, and IT generally. This follows the approach to quality management described in the works of Deming\, Crosby and Juran\, but limits the application to the IT and software engineering disciplines. \nAs such\, quality management is distinct from other aspects of quality such as quality assurance\, quality control and acceptable quality levels. Quality management is also distinct from the software engineering disciplines of verification and validation of systems. \nDr Kennedy will also address the connections of quality management to other areas of IT/software engineering\, notably systems thinking and organizational leadership.

SUMMARY:Recognizing and Disrupting Workplace Discrimination
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of this course is to educate employees on the definition of discrimination and harassment under the law. The course also provides an overview of the rights and responsibilities of employees and management\, by providing examples of behavior that constitutes harassment as well as providing prevention guidelines. Harassment rooted in bias represents one of the most destructive workplace issues faced by public and private employers today. Discrimination\, the act of prejudicial treatment based on race\, color\, sexual orientation\, national origin\, religion\, gender\, disability\, age among others\, can create workplace liability. Harassment can manifest in jokes\, negative stereotyping\, hostile acts or simple thoughtless comments. The ultimate outcome is the same: legal liability\, profound emotional stress\, lower employee morale and reduced productivity.
